The Sport fishing from Va. beach in July has been outstanding. Warmer temperatures bring awesome fishing both inshore and offshore.
Offshore sportfishing- Still a few tunas lingering around although most have moved north of us in search of cooler waters as typical for this time of year. With the tuna winding down for awhile there is always something to take their place. BILLFISH! White and blue marlin fishing has been pretty good and are here earlier than normal this year. Also a few sailfish have been in the mix. Gaffer dolphin and some nice wahoo are also available. Look for this action to steadily improve as we approach the fall.
Inshore sportfishing- Plenty of bluefish are along the oceanfronts offering inshore charters plenty of action. Spanish mackerel are also pretty plentiful. Cobia action has been great this year for charters targeting them. it seems like we see 2 or 3 on each inshore trip when we arent looking for them. Inshore shark fishing remains a great trip on either a full or half day. The waters off the beach are filled with blacktips, sharp nosed, hammerheads and even a few tiger sharks are being caught this year offering great action for anglers and are extremely good table fare.
A great action filled offshore trip that is increasing in popularity is amberjack fishing on some of the South towers. These are big, powerful fish that will test your tackle and muscle to the limits and are extremely aggressive and plentiful. Though not as popular table fare in this area as they are in the gulf coast states they are excellent at the table with the proper preparation and care! Give it a try sometime you will be surprised! |
